November Glossybox

November Glossybox Review

Glossybox was kind enough to send me another one of their boxes to try out and, again, I was quite pleased with what I received in their November box.  November’s box was packed with a variety of products that not only looked good but smelled good.  This is not your average box of beauty samples–they really are deluxe samples.  I have been quite surprised with the size of some of the products–most of them are actually a pretty substantial size.

THIS MONTH’S PRODUCTS

Pictured above (clockwise from far left):

Epionce Restorative Hand Cream — I was really surprised by the size of the hand cream I received.  I received a 2.5 oz tube of their Epionce Restorative Hand Cream.  A full size 2.5 oz tube retails at about $19 so I was really suprised to see it in a Glossybox that you can get for $21 per month.  Talk about value!  It also smells amazing, like a blend of citrus, lemon & berries, (probably because it’s formulated with organic raspberry seed oil) and it’s packed with antioxidants & omega fatty acids.  I’m curious to see how this will fare in the long-run and what my hands will look like with prolonged use, and it looks like I’ll have quite a while to test it out because this sample will probably last me through the winter.
In short:  Long-lasting hydration with an amazing smell.  My favorite product this month!

Illamasqua Ltd Lip & Eye Medium Pencil — This highlighter pencil is ultra creamy and glides on super smoothly.  However, to be honest, I have no idea how and where to use it properly.  Looks like I need to Google or YouTube “how to use highlighter pencil.”
In short:  Seems like a good product if you know how to use highlighter pencils.

Perfumies Solid Perfume Stick — This solid perfume stick deceptively looks like a chapstick.  Hopefully I do not mistakenly apply it to my lips!  The smell is deliciously girly & fruity without going overboard.  I’m not one for overly feminine scents but I am oddly drawn to how yummy this smells.  I also love how it has an all natural base and is preservative- & paraben-free.  However, I am not a fan of the consistency–I am not a fan of the filmy nature of solid perfumes and it seems like it doesn’t have much staying power.
In short:  Smells delicious, but has a waxy consistency and does not last very long.

Nume Style Arganics by NuMe Argan Oil — This argan oil is not much different than other argan oil products I have tried.  I have found that with argan oil products, they do hydrate my hair yet they do not help me combat frizz.  This product is good for hydration and you do not need a lot, but it may need to be paired with an anti-frizz product if your hair is frizzy like mine.  Argan oil can also be good when used as a moisturizer for skin, so you can apply any extra amount you do not use in your hair onto dry skin.
In short:  Good for fans of argan oil products.  If you haven’t tried an argan oil yet, this may be one to try, but it did not help tame my frizzy hair.  Also good as a skin moisturizer.

Skin&Co Roma Truffle Serum: Hydro-Toning Face Serum — I tend to stray away from anti-aging products because I am young and fear that they may be too powerful for my young adult skin.  However, I did rub a small amount onto my elbow to test it out and it appeared to make the area more toned.  I plan on giving this to my mom to try out.  Maybe Glossybox should take age into consideration when customizing their boxes for their customers, like how they take skin color and hair color into account.
In short:  This product is intended for older individuals, but from my experience, it seems like it may actually lead to brighter, more-toned skin.

If you’re interested in Glossybox, it is only $21 a month to join.  Details here: GLOSSYBOX

P.S.  I’m sorry for the delay in posts.  I’ve been on a “holiday hiatus,” so to speak, and have been maxing & relaxing this Christmas break (the last academic one I may ever have).  I went to Vegas a couple of days after finals with friends–the perfect way to celebrate my last fall quarter of college ever.  Since I got back I’ve just been dabbling in holiday tasks (shopping & decorating) and cleaning the house in preparation for family to come visit.  And, in the process of taking this time away from blogging & social media, I’ve started reevaluating my viewpoints on fashion, the items in my closet, and what I’m currently inspired by.  Even though I did not realize it throughout the course of the year, my sense of fashion + style has changed.  I’m excited to see what changes this shift in perspective will bring to this blog in the New Year.

Remember to take some time for yourselves in the midst of all this holiday excitement & reflect on why it’s been such a great year + also think about the wonderful times ahead of us in 2013.  It looks like we all survived the so-called “End of the World,” so this calls for some celebration & sharing of some gratitude with those we love.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Opening My Glossybox

Glossybox Review

I’ve been dying to try out Glossybox for myself for some time and, lucky for me, Glossybox was kind enough to send me one of their September boxes to sample their products.  I was so excited to receive this box last month in October.  I’ve spent the last month trying out and testing the products to see if they were a good fit for me and my beauty routine.

First off, I loved the presentation.  All of the products came nicely packaged in a beautiful pink box.  I have a weird fetish for great packaging (I like to collect boxes…don’t ask).

WHAT’S INSIDE
Clockwise from left to right:

  • Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water
It’s a makeup remover but it’s name makes it seem as if it’s more than that.  When I read the product description, I thought it was a toner at first.   Technically, it’s a makeup remover but you can use it all over your face.  The consistency is very light (not oily like other makeup removers) and feels like water.  It seems like it’d be a good fit for sensitive skin; it’s infused with herbs and left my skin feeling hydrated.  Plus, you don’t even have to wash it off after you use it, so it’d be perfect for travel and use on-the-go.
  • GKHAIR Moisturizing Conditioner & GKHAIR Moisturizing Shampoo
When it comes to shampoo + conditioner, I tend to stick with cheaper alternatives, such as Dove. My hair can be pretty unruly at times and unpredictable, so I tend to focus on the products I use after I wash my hair, rather than the actual products I use to wash it.  After a couple of uses, I did not see much difference in my hair.  Without product after shampooing, my hair was still pretty frizzy, and when I tried it again and put some product in after, it was comparable to the results I get with Dove products.  Since the GKHAIR products come with such a steep price point, I do not think I would buy them again.  However, one thing I did like was that the products smelled good–they have a unique scent that I don’t know how to quite describe.  The scent was musty but citrusy at the same time.
  • MISSHA M Perfect Cover B.B Cream
This B.B Cream comes from one of Korea’s original B.B cream creators, so I had high expectations for it.  It claims to lighten skin tone, heal visible wrinkles & blemishes, and prevent skin aging.  I do not need to lighten my skin tone and I am not sure if it improved the quality of my skin–I would need to use the product more.  What I liked about this product:  It went on smoothly and was not overly dewy, like some B.B creams.  Unfortunately the shade I got was Natural Beige and it was too light for me.  However, if you do subscribe with Glossybox, you do get the chance to customize your box by your skin color + skin type, so you will receive products in shades that suit you.
  • Kryolan for Glossybox Moisture Rich Lipstick in Glossy Pink
The shade was a little too light for me, but I’m sure I could work with it if I dabbed it to make it a little more sheer or layered another product over it.  I’m not much of a lipstick person so this was fun to experiment with.  It has a nice consistency and actually feels quite good on the lips.  I would get it in a different color–and, like I said, Glossybox lets you customize the box by your skin color and also your hair color, which helps in color matching products to you.

THE VERDICT
I would buy the Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water again, especially for use on planes–you can wear all the makeup you want for those late night flights and take it off while on board so your makeup doesn’t sit all night.  I would also consider buying the Perfect Cover B.B Cream and Kryolan lipstick too, but in different shades, of course.  Glossybox does allow for some customization (you get to pick your skin color, skin type, hair color, and hair type) so you can get products more suited towards you, which I think makes the box more valuable in the long run.

Overall, it’s a total of 5 products for $21 a month–less than $4.50 per product.  Not bad in my opinion.  Glossybox is an exciting concept for beauty gurus and beauty newbies alike–beauty experts have the opportunity to try out new products for a bargain while beauty newbies have the luxury of having premium samples handpicked for them.  So, there’s less guesswork and more time for beauty experimentation.  Now, who doesn’t love a surprise every once in a while?  Glossybox seems like the perfect once-a-month treat, especially for those of us who feel like they’re stuck in a beauty rut.

Check out Glossybox’s website for more reviews of the products (If you subscribe, you can earn 20 GLOSSYDots per review and eventually earn a free box.  A free box just for your feedback?  Sweet!).  I’ve also been following @glossybox_us on Twitter and taking part in their weekly #GLOSSYchat on Wednesdays at 12 pm PST.  Its a fun outlet to ask and answer fun questions about beauty + skincare, and they even gives away prizes.  Jump in on next week’s chat & also be sure to follow @mfashiondiary on Twitter.

Thanks again to Glossybox for this sample!
