One of my favorite holiday pastimes is heading to Pier 39 with friends and family. There is just something so enchanting about the piers at Christmas time. Yesterday I headed to the Aquarium of the Bay with some of my friends. It was so nice to go out after being so busy with school and final exams over the past week. Now I’m on Christmas break and ready to live it up to the fullest!
We took these photos while strolling through the underwater tube and in the fun little bubble-photo areas. I felt like I could spend hours there just watching the different animals and snapping photos. There’s a sort of feeling of tranquility and being at peace that sinks into you as you peer up into the blue waters and the stop at each exhibit.
I felt inspired by the various colors all around–blues, greens, and pops of color. My favorite exhibit was the jellyfish. Lights shone down on many of the species, giving the exhibit a truly illuminating, mesmerizing effect.
Outfit details: H&M moto jacket (similar) and infinity scarf. Forever 21 sweater. Fire coated jeans (similar). Clarks boots. Longchamp purse.
Thanks to my fishy friends for the photos and a fun outing! More photos from the rest of the day are coming soon…
It looks like fall is finally on its way–and, for that reason, I am hastily uploading these photos before the general public rules it too late to post up pictures from the beach. As I said in last week’s post, Northern California was experiencing an Indian summer, but the forecast for this week is now rain, rain, a day of cloudy skies, and rain. Who keeps flipping the fall switch on & off? I always feel so unprepared.
On to the topic of this post–I spent a day in Monterey last weekend with my boyfriend, Lukasz, and it looks like we managed to beat the rain man to it. It was a beautiful, sunny day to drive along the coast. We stopped at a beach on the way to Cannery Row, where we meandered for a bit and frolicked along the seashore (well, mainly I was the one gallivanting around like a fool).
At sundown, we finally made our way to Cannery Row and captured some last shots with the light. I loved the colors of the buildings by the water–understated blues and seafoam greens. The color palette was so delicate and calming, beautifully contrasted against the aged wood and rocks beneath.
I love contrasting items & themes. For my outfit, up top I went with leather + lace–two of my favorite materials for fall, possibly of all time. There’s just something so edgy about pairing something so tough with something so soft & girly. For the rest of the outfit, I went with my burgundy jeans by BDG, thrifted at Plato’s Closet, my Kenneth Cole Reaction slippers? (I don’t even know what to call them), and my olivia + joy studded purse.
Happy Fall everyone and I hope you’re enjoying the transition as much as I am!
I got this studded blouse at Forever 21 for over $20 (which is a little much for a Forever 21 top in my opinion) but I have been hunting for a studded top for ages. For this look, I wanted it to be edgy and maintain its sense of rebelliousness, but I did not want it to look too rocker-chick. To make it more me and a little more proper and appropriate for work, I paired it with a sheer striped sweater and my burgundy high-waisted jeans. The chain collar necklace added more texture and the booties pulled it all together.
Studded Denim Button-Up: Forever 21 (similar studded collar in chiffon here in black, seafoam, cream, or coral–loved the look so much I had to give a shout out to every color–or even get the same look with a studded collar in tan here and dark tan here)
Sheer Striped Sweater: Banana Republic (similar from Tilly only $5.97 here)
Burgundy High-Waisted Jeans (which, frankly, I wish were even more high-waisted, but I’m not going to complain since I got them for $12): BDG by Urban Outfitters at Plato’s Closet (similar here)
Booties: Vince Camuto (under $30 at Nordstrom rack!! such a steal) (similar here and here)
For the photos, I was inspired by the light on my balcony in the late afternoon. I was frustrated at first when the first shots came out dark, but I decided to play around with different spots out there and finally got some shots that I liked. I loved the contrast between light+dark so I lightened some of these photos and added a boost of color to others.
Yes, I know I take too many balcony shots. It’s just so nearby and convenient–plus, I love the look of it. I promise to go out more and take more shots, and hopefully take more snapshots of my daily adventures. Stay tuned.
